Wickenburg Quail Hunt & SW Bretons Meetup
Saturday, November 21 | Wickenburg, Arizona
Coffee, quail, Bretons and burgers. What more do you need?
Join EBs of the SW for a casual day in the field and an opportunity to connect with fellow bird dog owners, hunters and club members. We'll explore some of the great public-land quail habitat outside of Wickenburg, then wrap up the morning with burgers and stories from the field.
And while this is a Breton meetup, all breeds are welcome! Whether you hunt behind an Epagneul Breton, another pointing breed, a flushing dog, or are just interested in meeting fellow bird dog enthusiasts, we'd love to have you along.
Event Schedule
6:30 AM – Coffee & Meetup: Meet at Starbucks, grab a coffee, introduce yourself and make plans for the morning.
6:45 AM – Head to the Field: We'll hit the road for our hunting spots. There are opportunities within 30 minutes of town, or you can venture about an hour north toward the Bagdad area.
6:45–11:30 AM – Quail Hunting: Enjoy 2–3 hours in the field before the temperatures climb.
12:00 PM – Burgers & Stories: Regroup at Capital Farms Meats & Provisions for lunch, bird dog talk, and a chance to share stories, compare notes and hear how everyone did in the field.
Where to Meet

Wickenburg, AZ 85390
Post-Hunt Lunch – 12:00 PM

Capital Farms is consistently ranked among the best burger spots in Arizona, making it a pretty great way to finish a morning in the field! NOTE: Dogs will need to remain in your truck or vehicle while we're inside enjoying lunch. Please plan accordingly and make sure your vehicle provides a safe, comfortable environment for your dog.
Hunting Plans & Group Size
This is a casual, self-directed meetup, not a guided hunt. There is plenty of public land and good quail habitat in the area, and we can point you toward a few places to explore. You're also welcome to hunt a spot you already know.
You can bring your own hunting partner, come with a group, or show up solo and connect with another member. To avoid concentrating too many hunters in one area and, most importantly, to keep safety a priority, we recommend hunting in small groups of 2–3 hunters.
Wild birds on public land are never guaranteed. The goal is to enjoy a morning outdoors with our dogs and spend some time building connections within the bird dog community.

What to Bring
Please come prepared with your own hunting gear and supplies:
Your own shotgun and appropriate shotshells
Orange or other high-visibility clothing
Plenty of drinking water for yourself
Water for your dog, including enough for after the hunt
Appropriate field gear for you and your dog
A note on dog safety: November temperatures can still climb quickly in Arizona. Keep an eye on your dog throughout the morning, provide frequent opportunities to drink, and don't push your dog beyond its comfort level.
New to AZ upland hunting and not sure what to expect? Club VP Shooter Smith recently filmed a day of desert quail hunting with Spencer Daines of Sky Island Gun Dogs. Check it out on YouTube. The channel also has a lot of desert upland hunting to help you define good habitat.
Responsible Hunting & Conservation
We're fortunate to have access to some excellent public land quail habitat, and it's up to all of us to help keep it that way. We encourage everyone to practice safe, ethical and responsible hunting, respect other hunters and public land users, follow all applicable hunting regulations, and leave the field as we found it.
Good bird dogs and good hunting traditions depend on healthy habitat and responsible stewardship. Let's do our part to ensure these opportunities are here for the next generation of hunters and dogs.
Let Us Know You're Coming!
If you plan to join us for the morning, please send us an email to let us know you're coming so we can get a headcount and plan accordingly. Let us know if you plan to hunt, join us for lunch, or both!
Come Join Us!
Come for the coffee, join us for the hunt, meet us for a burger, or make a day of it and do all three.
You don't have to be a longtime member or an experienced hunter to join in. New members, longtime members, first-timers and bird dog enthusiasts are all welcome. Bring your dog, bring your appetite, and come spend a morning with SW Bretons!
We look forward to seeing you in Wickenburg!
